We know so much about slavery and yet we do not connect it to the slavery of sin. The physical pain and mistreatment of Mother Josephine reminds us of the cost and dehumanizing aspects of sin. In the same way, the kind and dignified treatment she received on her journey toward sainthood reminds us of the liberating love of God. Her joy and wonder are infectious and her actions and words remind us that she viewed all that happened to her, even the parts that left permanent physical scars, within the love of God. Be good, love the Lord, pray for those who do not know Him. What a great grace it is to know God!
