Many of the classes of this year are 'large group' in nature, in that there are more group activities and less individual presentation. Another way to focus this year is by looking at saints, people who devoted their lives to the big questions of suffering and injustice.
There are some great resources for teens and youth at the bishop's website like: http://usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithful-citizenship/videos-for-faithful-citizenship.cfm. Wander about the site for other useful ideas.
In addition, the later topics of this year have been loosely laid out; in our area we have access to other religious groups which gives us personal resources that allow us to exchange ideas and information in a question and answer format. While the background provided for the world religions classes has some merit, we are by no means experts and it is insufficient next to actually hearing it from the 'horse's mouth'. Access to a Temple, Mosque, or other such resource is invaluable to avoiding stereotyping and the understanding others only from our own point of view. There is a class at the end which is designed to keep all of this other information within context and to help the teens understand that while we may agree or not agree with these other groups, we are called by our Baptism as Catholics to "love one another." As with the other years discussions on bullying and the individual value of being one of God's children, we must have tolerance and understanding, something which may help them to understand the Church's attempts to reconcile with other Christian denominations and to dialog and cooperate with other religious faiths as encouraged by Vatican II. I encourage you to seek out these resources and adapt the later program to the availability of these resources in your area. If unavailable, then I encourage you to spend less time trying to explain them and more time trying to explain the Church's position on ecumenism and ecumenical efforts. We desire everyone to be one under God and that is our goal as evangelists.
